God is completely righteous. No person can earn his own righteousness. We depend on God to provide His righteousness to us by means of the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ allowed God to extinguish the guilt of sin and to cancel His obligation to punish sin for those who believe.
