The Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 was the start of the Christian Church. In the Temple in Jerusalem that day, the gift of holy spirit was given to each person who believed in Christ. This gift empowers believers (Acts 1:8), and along with that power comes responsibility. God set the stage for empire-wide evangelism by timing the outpouring of the spirit with Pentecost, the one-day feast when Jews from all over the Roman empire would be in Jerusalem, and about 3,000 Jews got saved that day.
