The Birth of John the Baptist
The gospel of Luke begins with a birth narrative about the pedigree and birth of John the Baptist. The reason for that seems to be the influence that John the Baptist had on the people of Galilee and Judea just before Jesus Christ came into the fullness of his ministry. The Old Testament prophets said that John would clear the road for the Messiah and thus prepare the people for the coming of the Messiah. Many people went to John and publicly confessed their sin, preparing their hearts for the Messiah to come.
