The 2024 election season in the United States is winding to a close. For many of us, that’s a breath of relief; no matter the outcome, we’re ready to be rid of advertisements, endorsements, debates, campaigns, and the nail-biting unease of simply not knowing what the end of election season will bring. We’re ready to know what’s coming and to not feel like we’re being enticed and coaxed to lean toward or away from something, without the comfort of certain proof of who’s who and what’s what.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was something in this life that was the opposite? That we knew we could trust every single day without fail and with zero second-guessing? Something so steadfast that we’d have no need of suspicion, only the relief and joy of absolute trust?
Good news – while we can never find that in the work of man, we can find that in our God!
Scripture tells us that God is faithful, steadfast, and true. He doesn’t change like shifting shadows (James 1:17). He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. The God who rescued His beloved ones from raging seas, slavery, unconquerable foes, plagues, exile, and the bondage of death itself is the same God who rescues and protects us today!
Oh, there are things in this life that will try to convince us otherwise. Doubters, detractors, and the voice of our enemy will whisper, “Did God really say? Will God really do all of that for you?” Like a cruel joke or a sneaky, subversive campaign, the enemy will try to plant seeds of doubt like the ones that first tempted Adam and Eve to follow his whisper instead of God’s will:
Maybe this love isn’t real. Maybe God isn’t FOR ME. Maybe this is all just some play for my “vote” that will go away as soon as God doesn’t need me.
But, friends, this isn’t true. Our God is for us, not against us. And every single day of every single year of our whole entire lives., we can stand firm in the knowledge that His unfailing love endures and that nothing can ever separate us from it. That is the truth—today, tomorrow, and forever. There is no turning or changing with Him.
That’s something to take comfort in no matter what changes with fallible human leaders. Our leader, our God, is for us and with us, always and always. Hallelujah and amen!
