A lack of sun can seriously effect our lives!
In January 2024, the State of Indiana experienced a noteworthy 22 gloomy, overcast days – not all in a row, thank God, but still the better portion of the month. And, boy, did I feel it! Lack of Vitamin D and the absence of even a peep of blue skies led to a sharp decline in my mental health at that time. I felt gloomy, foggy, run down, and had trouble drumming up the excitement or energy to go on adventures with my son or take care of myself and the household God has tasked me to upkeep as a helpmeet.
Much like the growing things in nature, down to a cellular level human beings need sunlight to be our best selves. God designed us to thrive on the benefits that the light of that distant star provides; He built our bodies to process and utilize its benefits for our overall wellbeing.
How much moreso do we need the light of Christ in our lives?
It’s often the case that the physical realm reflects spiritual realities. Such is true with the sun and the Son – we thrive the most physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually when we bask in the light of God’s only Son. When we pull away or neglect our relationship with him, it can leave us gloomy, foggy, run down, and lacking the joy and endurance that carries us through life.
This week, we encourage you to prioritize spending time in the Son! Whatever the weather, whatever storms or gloomy days you may be facing, make certain you spend time soaking in the words of Jesus. Pursue him wholeheartedly; lean into his instructions and follow his lived example, letting his light and love map your way.
Living purposefully in the Son’s light, it’s amazing the fruit that will grow in your life – the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control that will define your daily walk and interactions with people. And the most wonderful thing of all is, you don’t have to wait day after day for the Son’s light to shine, the way you have to wait for the weather to shift; Jesus’s love and light are always there, bright and brilliant, beckoning us in.
Let’s live and grow in his light!
