The Parable of the Forgiving Father is one of four parables in Luke 15 and 16 that Jesus taught consecutively to show that God was always trying to win people to Himself, but people need to do their part also. The sons in this parable exemplify two groups present at the time: sinners who were willingly listening to him, and religious leaders who were standing in opposition to him.
