Introduction to Figures of Speech in the Bible

One legitimate writing technique authors use to emphasize a point is to employ a figure of speech. There are many different figures of speech, but some are quite common in the Bible. For example, metonymy—using one noun for another—is frequently used in Scripture. An example is when “Jacob” is used to refer to all the people of Israel.
